St. John the Apostle Catholic School is part of the Diocese of Richmond, Virginia. In this Christ-centered learning environment, students are taught Catholic values, stewardship, and the sacraments of the Church.
Teachers and students begin each day with a morning prayer, asking for the graces to act and speak as Christ would. Following, the entire school recites the Pledge of Allegiance, standing firm in the belief we are "One Nation under God." Morning announcements end with the Saint of the Day; a small passage about a witness in the Catholic Faith who is to be a guide a role model for the students. What a great way to start our day!
Second grade students prepare and receive Reconciliation and First Holy Communion during their school year. They are taught the significance of Communion and Christ's presence in the Eucharist. Students learn about the mercy of God and His love for each and every one of us through the sacrament of reconciliation.
Once a week, students in Junior Kindergarten through 8th grade join together to celebrate the sacrifice of the Holy Mass at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church. All students and teachers sit with their Faith Families (a mix of students from each grade placed together to grow and learn in their Catholic Faith along side one another). Each week the middle school students take turns with readings, altar serving, and altar guild, providing students the opportunity to experience involvment beyond the pews at Mass.
